Jeffrey Patrick “Jeff” Kinney was born on February 19th, 1971 at Fort Washington, Maryland. His wife is Julie Kinney and they have 2 sons, Will and Grant. Jeff went to Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, Maryland and then attended the University of Maryland at College Park.

Films based on Books

Movies have been made on three of his titles in the popular book series. The first film has the title of the same name, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and was released in 2010. The second film, titled after the second book (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules), was released in 2011. The third film, (Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days) based upon the third book of the series, was released in 2012.

The original publisher of this wildly popular series was actually Funbrain.com. This particular web site has over 80 million visits and over 70,000 kids read it every day. In 2006, a multi book agreement was signed with Harry N. Abrams which turned the series into print. The first book was released in 2007 while the second and third book was released in 2008. 2009 was the release year for the fourth book in the series.

Jeff Kinney has won the Author of the Year award at the 2012 Children’s Book Awards. He also has won the Kids’ Choice Award for Favorite Book and Dorothy Canfield Fisher Children’s Book Award.

As a child Jeff really loved reading books and his favorite authors are Judy Blume, Piers Anthony and J.R.R. Tolkien.

Jeff Kinney wrote the book in the 1960′s, that is why it is in black and white. Just like the TVs back in those days.

That is not true. Jeff was born on February 19th, 1971 and began publishing his work online since 2004. As for the reason it is in black and white, well, it could have been Jeff’s style of drawing cartoons.
