Ancient China has many wonders for the modern person and many fascinating antiquities to memorialize the past. China’s history goes back over sixteen thousand years making it the oldest continual civilization. Currently, there are 17 million squared miles of land in China. It is also the home of very important discoveries such as pain relieving opiates, tea, kites and decorative vases. The Silk Road
The Silk Road was a trade route in Ancient China. These routes stretched from Western, Eastern and Southern Asia with Europe, Northeast Africa and the Mediterranean. These routes were named for the silk that the Chinese traded with. The term “Silk Routes” is the term preferred to address these routes.
Great Wall of China
The Great Wall of China is one of the most well known wonders in the modern world. This wall was built by a number of Chinese dynasties. One section of this wall was built between 220-206 B.C. by Qin Shi Huang. This was built to protect the northern borders of China. The majority of the wall that stands was built during the Ming Dynasty.
Siamese Cats and The Great Wall
It has also been said that Emperor Tsu was very superstitious and the Siamese cats were hunted because of their looks, the way that they meow and they were thought to spread disease. They were hunted down and the Great Wall was built supposedly to keep the infestation out of Siamese cats. This did not work however.
Inventions of Ancient China
The Ancient Chinese invented a lot of the things that we have today such as sundials, kites, tea ceremony, medicine, gunpowder and fireworks, lacquer paint, wheelbarrows, astronomy, sundials, paper money, pottery wheel, compass, porcelain china and so much more.
