Alexander Graham Bell is known for many things, the most commonly known fact is that Alexander Bell was the inventor of the first practical telephone. He is also one of the founding members of the National Geographic Society. Did you know that he was born in Scotland? Alexander Graham Bell

Alexander Bell was born in the UK, on the third of March in 1847. He attended the Universities of London and Edinburgh. In 1871 after living in Canada for a year, Bell immigrated to the United States. His dad was Alexander Melville Bell and his mom was Eliza Grace Symonds. In 1882 he became a naturalized United States citizen.

Inventions

Alexander Bell is most known for being the inventor of the telephone but he was also the inventor of the photophone that transmits sounds through light. He also developed the hydrodrome which was a type of boat. In fact it was the fastest boat in the world for years with a top speed of 50+ mph. Alexander Bell is also credited with developing the aileron, with the help of another inventor and aviator Glenn Hammond Curtiss. They also developed the tricycle style landing gear that is still used on plans today. He also developed a kite that was able to carry a person, the audiometer and the induction balance, which was like an early form of a metal detector.

Contributions

As mentioned before Bell’s work was greatly influenced by his wife and mother. They both happened to be deaf. In 1872 Alexander Graham Bell established a school for the deaf-mutes in Boston, Massachusetts. Another popular, deaf-mute, political activist of the times was Helen Keller to seek help and advice. Alexander Bell was appointed vocal physiology professor when the school he created became a part of the Boston University. Bell has contributed greatly to the field of aviation as well.

Teaching

Alexander Bell taught students that were deaf-mute. His teachings were based of his father’s system. He taught a system called visual language, he showed how the tongue, lips and throat are used when a sound is created.

    Im in 8th grade but when i was in 5th i just loved to study him. Hes the most interesting person Ive ever studed.Plus my friend is his great great great great great nefew.

    ALexander graham bell is the person im doing research on he is the one who built the telephone he is really awsome i think im tryun to find facts he is one of my favorite scientists well i like albert einstine to but i like both i jus t know figured out he was the one who built the telephone!!!!!! I think that is really coolthat i foud that out its really awsome. He has invinted other things to. But i think i like the telephone the best though everything he has invinted every thing is really awsome the only reason im typing so much is because i am bored and i like typing for some reason ;). i love studing him though he is pretty cool scientist.:)
